AI-driven drug discovery
: Drug Discovery within the Human Kinome
Protein kinases are critical regulators of cell proliferation, survival, differentiation, and DNA repair, and their dysregulation is a hallmark of many cancers, making them attractive targets for therapeutic intervention.
To date, over 70 kinase inhibitors have received FDA approval, primarily for oncology indications, demonstrating their central role in precision cancer therapy. Recent trends in kinase drug development show a strategic transition from broad-spectrum tyrosine kinase inhibitors to more selective, next-generation compounds that reduce off-target toxicity, supported by advances in structural biology, computational design, and biomarker-driven approaches.
This seminar will provide an overview of the drug discovery process, including both traditional and AI-driven strategies for hit identification and lead optimization. It will further explore the evolving landscape of kinase-targeted drug discovery, with particular emphasis on major kinase targets such as EGFR, FLT3, and CDKs. Current challenges—such as resistance mechanisms and tumor heterogeneity—will also be addressed. Finally, emerging directions aimed at expanding the therapeutic scope and improving patient stratification will be discussed in the context of next-generation kinase inhibitor development.
Host: Prof. Young-Tae Chang (T.279-2101)
