Organic Electrosynthesis: From Molecular Design to Sustainable Chemical Production

Organic electrosynthesis has emerged as a powerful approach to sustainable chemical synthesis, enabling redox transformations driven by electricity rather than stoichiometric oxidants or reductants. Our research aims to integrate molecular-level organic reaction design with electrochemical principles to develop new synthetic concepts, methodologies, and reaction systems. In this talk, I will present our recent efforts in organic electrosynthesis from two complementary perspectives. The first focuses on the design and mechanistic understanding of electrochemical molecular transformations, including reactions involving radical ions, ion-pairing effects, and electrochemically activated intermediates. The second emphasizes electrochemical reaction systems, including flow electrolysis, heterogeneous electrocatalysis, and in situ spectroscopic analysis, which enable efficient, selective, and scalable chemical transformations. Through these studies, we seek to establish electrosynthesis as a practical platform for sustainable chemical production by connecting molecular reaction design with reactor, catalyst, and mechanistic insights.

Host: Prof. Hyunwoo Kim (T.279-2332)
