We have developed a new light-emitting material based on non-conjugated block copolymers which possess polystyrene sulfonate (PSS) chains. Significantly enhanced fluorescence intensities were gained by means of the confinement of the PSS chains within nanosized domains where the wavelength of fluorescence emission was fine-tuned by rational molecular designs. The new light-emitting material exhibited high sensitivity toward Cu2+ ions, with a detection limit of ppb levels, and rapid response time of £ 1 min.

술폰화된 폴리스타이렌(sulfonated polystyrene, PSS) 기반 고분자의 발광현상을 처음으로 보고하고, 그 양자 수율을 나노미터 크기의 자기 조립체 형성을 유도해 크게 향상시켰다. 이 물질은 고감도 Cu2+ 이온 센서로 활용 가능하다.
