Noncanonical Cyclic Peptides 

   Since the synthesis of urea in 1828, humans have been able to freely create organic compounds. However, even in the modern era of advanced chemical technologies, relying on conventional synthesis methods often restricts the synthesis of complex compounds to the milligram scale. Some liken total synthesis to mountain climbing. Many climbers have reached the summit of Everest, yet why does no one cease to climb? Our research is a process of continually providing clear answers to such questions, akin to completing a puzzle by finding the missing pieces. Through the dedicated efforts and research of excellent chemists, organic synthesis has advanced significantly over the past 200 years. Nevertheless, the supply of complex organic compounds remains a rate-limiting step in the pharmaceutical industry.
In this talk, based on case studies from our laboratory, we will demonstrate how simple methods can facilitate novel retrosynthetic disconnections and aid in the pursuit of ideal solutions to long-standing challenges1-6
