Blue-Emitting Self-Assembled Polymer Electrolytes for Fast, Sensitive, Label-Free Detection of Cu(II) Ions in Aqueous Media

We have developed a new light-emitting material based on non-conjugated block copolymers which possess polystyrene sulfonate (PSS) chains. Significantly enhanced fluorescence intensities were gained by means of the confinement of the PSS chains within nanosized domains where the wavelength of fluorescence emission was fine-tuned by rational molecular designs. The new light-emitting material exhibited high sensitivity toward Cu2+ ions, with a detection limit of ppb levels, and rapid response time of £ 1 min.
